Little learners books for beginner readers

  • Pip and Tim ( starts with 6 sounds and builds - the series goes to common spellings of vowel digraphs)

  • Whizz kids (not sure they’re up to vowel digraphs yet but will get you through all of prep and start of year one)

  • Big world - Non fiction beginner reader books - very very popular with the neurodivergent kids who don’t love stories as much but really like learning about new things. From the first 6 sounds to vowel digraphs.

Phonic books - The phonic books series have a slightly different sound progression that follows the sounds write units of work. After a few units the kids have most of the sounds from the basic alphabet and can use either series. I like the phonic books text - they have a clear sierra text that is closer to the Qld school text than the little learners books.

  • Dandelion readers

  • Dandelion launchers

  • World series - again, non fiction text which is popular with the neurodivergent kids.
