They need something that is engaging and is more age-appropriate but also something that is at a level where they can enjoy with the book fully which means not spending their whole time sounding out the words, but being able to read for enjoyment.

The phonic books series for older readers are fantastic and all have workbooks that you can purchase alongside them to practice the spelling and vocabulary and other linguistic tasks that are important for reading at the same level as the book.

I strongly encourage that these are as sets because they are just invaluable to actually keep practising the skills that your child is learning.

The little learners also do the ‘fox kid’ chapter books which are also excellent for older beginner readers, as they look like real chapter books.

There are books that cover all levels, from SATPIN, all the way to using morphology in the final set of the series.
